The Advisory Committee into Post Election Violence (ACIPEV), Kenya was established on May 22 2008 to investigate the “most destructive violence ever experienced in Kenya" following the disputed December 2007 General Election results. Post-election violence led to unprecedented human rights violations, killing of over 1,500 Kenyans, displacement of over 300,000 more, and injustices that continue to threaten peace and security. The recommendations of CIPEV surrounding these and other matters have been heralded as a resolve to break the cycle of impunity in Kenya.
